Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic prompted a reevaluation of urban dynamics worldwide, impacting economic, social, and daily life aspects. This shift, coupled with the imperative to combat climate change, has led to a reconsideration of modern city functioning. The polycentric city model emerges as a solution, integrating technological advancements to create user-centric, environmentally friendly urban spaces. Research demonstrates the feasibility of this model, emphasizing its economic, environmental, and social benefits. Greek cities, with their manageable scale and existing neighborhood structures, are particularly suited for this transition, offering a favorable costbenefit ratio. Case studies aim to validate the effectiveness of the polycentric model in Greece, reinforcing its potential for sustainable urban development. This paper evaluates the prospects of the polycentric operational model for the city of Ilioupolis in Athens, Greece
