dc.description.abstract | As one of the main concerns of urban studies, more and more scholars have paid attention to the interaction of the government, community, residents and other stakeholders in the process of urban renewal, as well as the significance of participatory planning for the sustainability of cities. Strikingly, however, there are few studies on the gender dimensions of participants. In fact, in an urban renewal project in Yulin Community of Chengdu, I observed that women were the major participants in the process. Therefore, this study uses the theory of intersectionality to analyse the three different female groups in this urban renewal project, including professional women, female community workers and female resident activists. The diverse rights, knowledge, ethics and other backgrounds held by different female groups led to complex participation motivations, processes and outcomes, to fill the research gap of the gender dimension in the participation process.
